Theater and activism are interwoven in an incredible number of ways.
Theater provides a way to communicate issues, desire for change, providing a voice to the voiceless; a tool to improve education, teamwork, creativity, problem solving, public speaking; and uniting communities.
One of the policy areas theater tries to bridge in general and even within the theater community is equitable opportunity between men and women – whether it be equal pay, access to benefits – like paid family/sick leave, equal opportunities for scripts to be produced, be hired as a director, or quality roles.
One campaign to acheive this is #52PlaysByWomen.
